Client: Automotive Component Supplier

Industry: Automotive

Segment: Manufacturing Execution System

Solution: Custom MES Implementation

Technology: .NET, SQL Server, SAP Integration

About the Client

The client is a reputed South Korean auto component manufacturer with global operations. The client has several manufacturing plants in India.

Business Challenge

The client’s manufacturing plants specialize in the following operations related to automobile manufacturing:

  • Press shop
  • Engine shop
  • Body shop
  • Paint shop
  • Assembly Shop
  • Final shop

The client faced several challenges in extracting maximum productivity from its plant. Most of these were related to not having the right technologies, and in some cases saddled with legacy technologies for control, integration and oversight. Some of the key challenges included:

  • Legacy shop floor control systems
  • No visibility of production loss, part tracking, defects
  • Higher cycle time
  • Higher downtime
  • No sync between ERP and shop floor control

The client was looking for a solution provider with expertise to understand the unique challenges they faced and provide a modern platform that allowed for a high degree of customization.

After evaluating several solution providers, the client chose AiMetric’s SmartMES platform for its next-gen features as well as highly modular build that allowed for a high degree of customization.

Solution

One of the challenges faced by AiMetric was to implement, test and deploy a full fledged MES solution without disrupting ongoing shop floor operations and IT infrastructure set-ups. At the same time, the MES had to be built atop existing control and data resources.

The client had standardized its PLCs with LSIS make and had upgraded all master and slave PLCs. The SmartMES solution from AiMetric had to handshake with the LSIS PLCs and reprogram them to send and receive the data from the custom MES system.

Shop floor interface to the SmartMES was developed to send the order information and collect the runtime data from the shop floor. A centralized MES application that was developed on the Microsoft .NET platform to interface with the ERP system.

AiMetric implemented the following MES modules for the client:

  • Tracking
  • Scheduling
  • Ordering
  • Genealogy
  • Event management
  • Error proofing

Technology
